신용카드로 머지포인트를 구매한 일부 구매자들은 사용처에서 이용이 중단됐는데도 할부자금이 계속적으로 빠져나가고 있을 것이다고 토로하였다. 더욱이 결제 비용이 10만 원을 넘지 않는 소액이거나 일시불로 결제해 항변권을 행사하지 못해 고통받고 있는 상황이다.

신세계인터내셔널 관계자는 “핸드폰 소액결제는 신용카드 결제와 유사한 구조이기 덕분에 직접 계좌로 이체가 된다”고 말했다. LF몰 관계자 역시 “휴대폰 소액 결제는 다날, ISP/페이북 등으로 이미 결제가 된 부분이기 때문에 현금으로 당장 지급하고 있을 것이다”고 이야기했었다.
이은희 인하대 구매자학과 교수는 “구글 같은 글로벌 오프라인 사업자도 매출에만 신경쓰지, 문제가 발생했을 때 적당한 대처를 하지 않는 때가 많다”면서 “구글 소액결제 케이스가 증가하고 있다면 구글이 가장 최선으로 할 일은 이런 일이 또 발생하지 않게 조치를 취하는 것”이라고 이야기 했다.
